Ishiguro’s research is structured through three interconnected areas: philosophy, history, and sustainability. His philosophical research categorizes expressions found in contemporary dance through Japanese conceptual vocabulary and aesthetics. His historical research examines how Japanese philosophy and aesthetics became embedded within American modern and contemporary dance through intercultural exchange. His sustainability research explores alternative models for contemporary dance practice in response to the increasing economic challenges of urban production systems, investigating how regional collaboration and community engagement may support sustainable artistic activity in the future.
